Distance Learning - Continued Education

by FII - May 18th

Still under the "stay-at-home" order? Consider getting a leg up on your next F.I.I. course. During this time, many F.I.I. instructors are offering distance classes via Zoom or Skype. They cover the academic portion of the freediving course in several separate sessions. This format provides more time on each subject than the traditional course setup and gives the instructor the opportunity to dive deeper into the topic.

It also gives you the chance to ask more questions without feeling guilty about how much time you are taking up. Going through various topics over several days allows you to better absorb the material and also to engage in discussions about the topic with your instructor or classmates while preparing for the next class. This is a great way to learn something new and to fully understand the skills you will be applying to your freediving. You can complete your practical portion with any F.I.I. instructor/course anywhere in the world if there is room in the class. If you don’t manage to finish the practical portion within twelve months of your theory course, you will be asked to sit through the theory course again to refresh your mind before you jump in the water. This will be done with no further charge for resits.

How do you sign up? Go to www.freedivinginstructors.com and use the F.I.I. instructor locator to find an instructor near you or near wherever you are planning to do your practical course. Then call or email your instructor to see if they are setting up a distance class and ask when it starts. Although you don’t need to have the same instructor for the theory and open water portions of the course, it is generally recommended, because your theory instructor will know better what help you may need once you are ready for the practical portion.

If you don’t feel ready for the next course yet, think about retaking your current level or specialty; you might be surprised how much more you can learn on the second run.
